    Smoking cases filed under Section 167 of the Railway Act

    Bengaluru railway division holds fire safety awareness campaign

    Total of 3,000 railway staff and 5,056 passengers take part

258 cases against individuals caught smoking within trains or railway premises have been filed under Section 167 of the Railway Act, according to a press release.

The Bengaluru railway division has undertaken a comprehensive fire safety awareness campaign, covering 30 stations and 191 trains.

A total of 3,000 railway staff and 5,056 passengers received counseling on safety measures. The initiative included hands-on training for more than 90 passengers in using fire extinguishers.

Additionally, over 10,000 SMS messages were sent, 3,500 pamphlets were distributed, and street plays (Nukkad Nataks) were performed at 11 wayside railway stations to enhance awareness among passengers.

On November 17, the ‘Station Mahotsav’ was organized at KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station. The event commemorated the 153rd anniversary of the first train journey in Bengaluru, which took place on August 1, 1864.

The historic moment involved a steam engine locomotive traveling from Bengaluru Cantonment railway station to Jolarpettai in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, marking the introduction of railways and progress to the region.

The press release also highlighted that the city’s inaugural train, named Bengaluru Mail, covered a distance of 149 km and was operated by the Madras Railway Company.
