Indian cricket stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are poised for a potential farewell at the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. After a hiatus following India’s semi-final loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup, the duo has returned to the T20I setup, much to the excitement of fans.

Rohit Sharma, 37, and Virat Kohli, who has faced scrutiny regarding his place in the T20I team, had not played a T20I match for over a year. Their comeback is seen as a strategic move ahead of the 2024 edition of the tournament. Sharma’s age makes it unlikely for him to extend his T20I career to the next World Cup in 2026, while Kohli, despite his fitness and form, is also expected to transition away from being a three-format player by the time he turns 37.

As the Indian team gears up for the T20 World Cup, Sharma is set to make history. On June 5 in New York, he will become only the second player to participate in all editions of the T20 World Cup, joining Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, who will achieve the same milestone on June 8 against Sri Lanka.

This tournament is anticipated to be the last opportunity for fans to witness the remarkable synergy of Sharma and Kohli on the T20 World Cup stage, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket.
