Apple has appointed Bengaluru-educated researcher Amar Subramanya as its Vice-President of AI, marking a major shift in the company’s leadership as it accelerates its global AI strategy.
Apple has strengthened its leadership team by appointing researcher Amar Subramanya as its new Vice-President of Artificial Intelligence, marking a key shift as the company intensifies its global AI efforts. The appointment places Subramanya at the centre of Apple’s expanding work in advanced machine learning and large-scale AI models.

Subramanya, an engineering graduate from Bangalore University, completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering in 2001. His professional career began at IBM as a software engineer, followed by roles at Microsoft. He later joined Google in 2009 as a Staff Research Scientist and went on to lead AI initiatives across major tech enterprises, including a brief return to Microsoft in senior AI roles.
In his new position, Subramanya will oversee crucial domains such as Apple’s foundation models, machine learning research, and AI safety and evaluation, areas that now form the core of Apple’s product and software strategy. He will operate under software head Craig Federighi, reflecting Apple’s plan to integrate AI deeper into its ecosystem.

The leadership transition comes at a time when global competition in artificial intelligence is accelerating, with major tech companies investing heavily into generative AI, safety frameworks, and large-scale model development. Apple’s leadership highlighted the long-standing role of AI in the company’s vision and emphasised that Subramanya’s technical expertise and industry experience will help advance the next phase of AI innovation across Apple platforms.
The move signals Apple’s commitment to strengthening its AI infrastructure, broadening its research capabilities, and pushing forward new AI-driven features as consumer demand and industry advancement continue to rise.
