Restaurant spaces were awarded through a competitive e-auction process

SWR launched a similar themed restaurant 'Bogie Bogie' in Hubballi

Restaurants cater to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners

By the end of March, Bengaluru railway stations are poised to unveil their eagerly anticipated Rail Coach restaurants, as announced by railway authorities.

These distinctive dining spots are themed around train coaches and are slated to open at the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station in Majestic and the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal in Baiyappanahalli (SMVT).

South Western Railways (SWR) reportedly disclosed that, “The restaurant spaces were awarded through a competitive e-auction process in June 2023, generating substantial interest among bidders. M/s Haldirams secured the rights for the restaurant at KSR station, while Gaurav Enterprises will manage operations at SMVT. Each contract spans five years.”

Prior to this, SWR successfully launched a similar themed restaurant named ‘Bogie Bogie’ at Sri Siddharoodha Swami Railway Station in Hubballi. Initially, SWR intends to inaugurate one such restaurant at each station. The selected bidders will be provided with an empty coach to convert into a theme-based restaurant, operating round the clock.

These rail coach restaurants will be strategically located near the main entrances of the railway stations, boasting air-conditioned dining areas.

SWR’s objective is to cater to the preferences of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners by housing separate kitchens for each.

The menus will offer a diverse range of North and South Indian delicacies, with seating available for 50 individuals inside the coach restaurant, along with additional outdoor seating.
