Bengaluru’s GBA to tow and auction vehicles abandoned on roads for months, aiming to ease congestion and enforce discipline

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has announced strict action against vehicles left parked for months on public roads without authorization. Officials confirmed that such vehicles will first be towed and later auctioned in collaboration with the city’s traffic police.

The decision comes after repeated appeals to vehicle owners went unheeded. Authorities noted that abandoned vehicles have become a major contributor to traffic congestion across Bengaluru. With roads already under strain, the GBA has decided to adopt stronger measures to clear public spaces and improve mobility.

Under the new plan, vehicles parked illegally or left unattended for extended periods will be removed from the roadside. Once towed, they will be listed for auction by the respective local corporation areas, with the GBA overseeing the process. Police officials will assist in identifying and managing vehicles during the operation.

Traffic police highlighted that the problem has persisted despite earlier warnings. Many vehicles remain unmoved for months, blocking busy stretches and creating bottlenecks. The new enforcement drive is expected to ease congestion and reclaim road space for commuters.

Authorities emphasized that the initiative is not only about clearing abandoned vehicles but also about instilling discipline among owners. By auctioning towed vehicles, the GBA aims to send a strong message that public roads cannot be used as long‑term parking lots.

Officials expressed confidence that the measure will provide some relief to Bengaluru’s traffic woes. They urged residents to cooperate and ensure vehicles are parked responsibly, warning that failure to comply will result in towing and auction.
