Bengaluru East to inspect illegal PGs/hostels from Nov 12 for license, fire safety, and hygiene violations under the 2024 civic law
The Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) is set to initiate a large-scale enforcement drive targeting unauthorized paying guest (PG) accommodations and hostels operating within its jurisdiction. The initiative, scheduled to begin November 12, aims to address violations related to trade licensing, fire safety, and hygiene standards.
Following a recent report that flagged numerous PGs functioning without proper permits, BECC has designated health officers as nodal supervisors to lead inspection teams across various zones. These teams will verify compliance with licensing norms and safety protocols, particularly in residential areas where commercial operations are prohibited under the Greater Bengaluru Authority Act, 2024.

The crackdown follows revelations that out of 1,452 PGs in the BECC region, a significant number lacked trade licenses and failed to meet mandatory safety requirements. In response, BECC has mobilized zonal teams to conduct inspections across key sub-divisions.
In the Mahadevapura zone, inspections will be carried out in Hoodi, Whitefield, and Marathahalli on November 12, 13, and 14, under the leadership of Rakesh N. Meanwhile, in the KR Puram zone, KM Vishveshwarayya will oversee checks in Horamavu, KR Puram, and HAL sub-divisions.
The civic body emphasized that the operation is being conducted to safeguard public health and ensure orderly residential development. Strict action is expected against PGs and hostels found violating zoning and safety norms.
