Bengaluru Police to regulate quick commerce delivery sector with stricter checks, safety protocols, and case documentation amid rising crimes

Bengaluru has seen a troubling rise in crimes involving quick commerce delivery agents, prompting city police to initiate stricter oversight of the gig economy workforce. In response to growing safety concerns, especially those affecting women, the Bengaluru City Police are planning to segregate and document all incidents involving delivery personnel.

A recent case involving the alleged molestation of a Brazilian model by a delivery agent at her residence has intensified scrutiny of the sector. The accused, a 21-year-old diploma student, was apprehended and placed in judicial custody by RT Nagar police. This incident has highlighted the vulnerabilities associated with rapid delivery services and the need for better regulation.

To address these issues, the Police Commissioner has directed all stations to compile and review cases linked to delivery agents. The focus is on identifying patterns and improving preventive measures. Authorities are also working to make background checks mandatory for all delivery personnel, especially in cases where workers switch employers frequently. This includes verifying employment history and police records before onboarding.

Companies operating in the quick commerce space have been instructed to implement robust safety protocols. These include GPS-enabled tracking of deliveries, maintaining area-wise delivery logs, and ensuring that active contact details of delivery agents are available. Additionally, concerns have been raised about agents using vehicles not registered in their names, prompting calls for greater accountability from employers.

The sector’s rapid expansion has outpaced regulatory frameworks, making documentation and oversight essential. Police officials have stressed the need for companies to take responsibility for their workforce and ensure compliance with safety norms. As the gig economy continues to grow, Bengaluru’s law enforcement aims to establish a safer environment for both consumers and workers through targeted interventions and improved monitoring.
