Bengaluru Police urged e-commerce firms to report delivery staff crimes, verify documents, and follow traffic and safety rules after rising misconduct cases
In response to a surge in complaints involving delivery personnel, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh held a meeting with representatives from leading e-commerce platforms, including Swiggy and Zomato. The session focused on addressing rising concerns over misconduct by gig workers during deliveries.
Recent incidents have highlighted troubling behavior, including road rage, verbal abuse, physical assaults over delivery delays, and harassment of women. One notable case involved the arrest of a delivery worker accused of molesting a Brazilian model in RT Nagar while delivering groceries, prompting renewed scrutiny of the sector.
During the meeting, police officials emphasized the importance of thorough background checks before onboarding delivery staff. Companies were instructed to verify vehicle ownership documents and driving licences to ensure compliance and accountability.

Authorities also urged firms to actively use the “Namma 112” police helpline to report any suspicious or criminal behavior involving their delivery workforce. Strict adherence to traffic regulations was reinforced, with police stressing that delivery executives must follow road safety norms while on duty.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police shared updated safety and compliance guidelines with company representatives to improve operational standards and public safety. These measures are part of a broader effort to regulate the fast-growing gig economy and ensure safer interactions between delivery personnel and customers.
As quick commerce continues to expand across Bengaluru, law enforcement is working closely with private firms to build a more secure and responsible delivery ecosystem, prioritizing both consumer protection and workforce discipline.
