Karnataka is set to establish a new Information Technology city in Bidadi, near Bengaluru, to accommodate growing demand from global investors keen on setting up operations in the state. Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru in‑charge D.K. Shivakumar announced the plan ahead of the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, highlighting the city’s unmatched strength in the IT sector.
Shivakumar noted that Bengaluru is home to nearly 25 lakh IT professionals—twice the number in California, which has about 13 lakh. With a population of 1.4 crore, one in five residents is engaged in the IT industry, underscoring the city’s role as India’s technology capital. He credited both government policies and private sector initiatives for enabling this success and emphasized that Karnataka is committed to supporting foreign investments.

To address infrastructure challenges posed by rapid urban growth, the state has earmarked ₹1.5 lakh crore for projects including 41 km of double‑decker flyovers, twin tunnel roads, elevated corridors, buffer roads, and the 117‑km Bengaluru Business Corridor. Shivakumar stressed that cooperation across sectors will be vital to sustain Bengaluru’s momentum.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah added that Bengaluru has become synonymous with entrepreneurial energy, hosting around 16,000 startups that account for nearly half of India’s total startup funding. He announced a new Startup Policy aimed at fostering 25,000 ventures over the next five years through measures in funding, infrastructure, talent development, and social inclusion.
The proposed IT city in Bidadi is expected to further strengthen Karnataka’s position as a global technology hub.
