Bengaluru Traffic Police plans 10 towing vehicles to curb illegal parking at 154 hotspots. Fines: ₹1,000 for two-wheelers, ₹1,500 for cars

In a decisive move to tackle Bengaluru’s chronic traffic congestion, the city’s Traffic Police has submitted a proposal to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) seeking the immediate deployment of 10 new towing vehicles. Each traffic division and sub-division is slated to receive one vehicle, enabling swift enforcement against unauthorized parking.

The initiative targets 154 high-density traffic hotspots, including 12 major corridor roads, 43 congestion-prone junctions, and 99 heavily trafficked stretches. Key routes such as Outer Ring Road (Tumakuru Road to Goraguntepalya), Hosur Road (St John’s Hospital to Central Silk Board), and Ballari Road (Chalukya Circle to Hebbal) are among the primary focus areas. Junctions notorious for bottlenecks—Hebbal, Silk Board, KR Puram, and Jedi Mara—will be prioritized.

To strengthen enforcement, a dual fine system will be introduced. Two-wheelers parked illegally will incur a ₹1,000 penalty—₹500 under the Motor Vehicles Act and ₹500 under the GBA Act. For cars and other vehicles, the fine will be ₹1,500, split between ₹500 under the MV Act and ₹1,000 under the GBA Act. Only officers ranked Assistant Sub-Inspector and above will be authorized to collect these fines.

This joint effort between BTP and GBA marks a shift from reactive traffic management to proactive congestion prevention. Officials emphasize that the goal is to ensure smoother public movement by addressing the root causes of traffic snarls, particularly those stemming from unauthorized parking.
