Videos show ISIS operative and rapist using phones in Bengaluru jail. Probe launched; Karnataka govt vows strict action over security lapses
Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru is facing renewed scrutiny after videos surfaced online showing inmates using mobile phones and enjoying unauthorized privileges. Among those featured in the footage are Zuhaib Hameed Shakeel Manna, an alleged ISIS recruiter, and Umesh Reddy, a convict in multiple rape and murder cases.
The videos, which quickly gained attention on social media, show Manna sipping tea and scrolling through a mobile phone while interacting with another inmate. Manna, a resident of Bengaluru and a computer application specialist, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency for allegedly raising funds and recruiting youth to join ISIS in Syria.

Another clip reportedly shows Umesh Reddy using multiple mobile phones inside his barracks, where a television was also visible. Reddy has been convicted in several heinous crimes and was previously sentenced to death, which was later commuted to 30 years of imprisonment.
The visuals have sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the prison’s security protocols and the possibility of preferential treatment for high-profile inmates. In response, prison authorities have launched an internal investigation. Karnataka’s Home Minister has also addressed the issue, emphasizing the need for accountability and promising strict action against any lapses in jail administration.
