Italy’s Cuisine Week in Bengaluru features Chef Italo Bassi, a citywide food trail from Dec 1, and masala dosa love from the consul

Bengaluru’s culinary culture received a unique endorsement this week as Italy’s Consul General Giandomenico Milano expressed his admiration for the city’s iconic masala dosa. The revelation came during the launch of the 10th edition of Settimana della Cucina Italiana nel Mondo (Week of Italian Cuisine in the World), an annual celebration spotlighting Italy’s global gastronomic heritage.

The 2025 edition carries added significance, coinciding with Italian cuisine’s nomination for inclusion on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This year’s theme, ‘Tradition and Innovation, Health and Sustainability,’ highlights the balance between preserving culinary heritage and embracing modern, planet friendly practices. Milano underscored that Italian food represents more than taste—it embodies cultural stewardship, blending memory with innovation to ensure cuisine remains healthy, sustainable, and forward looking.

To bring this philosophy to Bengaluru, the Consulate General has invited Michelin starred Chef Italo Bassi, one of Italy’s most celebrated culinary figures. Chef Bassi will conduct a hands on masterclass at Christ University, offering students an opportunity to explore both classical techniques and contemporary approaches to Italian cooking.

The celebrations will culminate in a citywide Italian food trail beginning December 1. Leading restaurants across Bengaluru—including Alto Vino at Marriott Whitefield, L’Italia at The Park, Chianti, Caprese at Shangri La, Toscano, Ti Amo at Conrad, Rosmarino, Pinocchio and La Gioia—will present special menus and collaborative dining experiences.

By blending Italian culinary traditions with Bengaluru’s vibrant food culture, the event underscores the city’s growing role as a hub for global gastronomy and cultural exchange.
