Chennai-based techie found dead in Coimbatore

Police suspect she died by suicide

Relentless online harassment behind her death

A Chennai-based techie, whose infant miraculously survived a three-storey fall last month, was found dead in Coimbatore on Saturday. Police suspect she died by suicide following relentless online harassment.

The tragic incident traces back to April when a harrowing video surfaced showing eight-month-old Harin Magi precariously perched on the edge of a tin roof, three floors below the fourth-floor balcony from which she had fallen. The dramatic footage captured a group of residents heroically coordinating a rescue. As they held a bedsheet below, a quick-thinking man climbed out of a first-floor window, balanced on the railing, and safely handed the child to another resident inside.

While the video drew widespread praise for the rescuers, it also incited harsh criticism towards the mother, who was tending to her child on the balcony when the fall occurred. The intense trolling on social media accused her of negligence, exacerbating her distress.

Struggling with depression, the family relocated to Coimbatore for support. Despite their efforts, the techie’s mental health continued to deteriorate, leading to her untimely death. Authorities have registered a case of suspicious death and are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the cause.

This incident highlights the devastating impact of cyberbullying and underscores the need for compassionate public discourse.
