Sanjay Singh was serving as president for 3 days

His decision to conduct U-15 and U-20 nationals before 2024 was objected

The business of the Federation is being run from the premises controlled by former office bearers: Union Sports Ministry

The Union Sports Ministry in a press release has confirmed that the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has been asked to temporarily suspend all its activities untill further notice. Sanjay Singh after having won the election was serving as the President for merely a duration of 3 days. Several reasons have been cited for this decision. His announcement that the U-15 and U-20 nationals for wrestling would take place before the end of this year was deemed to have been taken with proper consultation of other Executive Committees. “This announcement is hasty, without giving sufficient notice to wrestlers who are to take part in the said nationals and without following provisions of the constitution of WFI,” the press release stated.

Furthermore it can be speculated that the public pressure on account of wrestlers expressing their dissent, as Sanjay Singh was perceived to be a close associate of Brij Bhushan Singh who is caught amidst a sexual assault scandal, has played its role in the decision. “The business of the Federation is being run from the premises controlled by former office bearers. Which is also alleged premises wherein sexual harassment of the players have been alleged and present the court is hearing the matter.Further, UWW, the international body for wrestling, is yet to issue official communication lifting the suspension of WFI. WFI has been instructed to suspend all its activities till further orders,” the press release added.
