A tragic incident has unfolded in the United Kingdom as an investigation into the death of 24-year-old British student, Ellen Mercer, has revealed concerning details surrounding her demise.

Mercer sought medical assistance at an emergency facility in February of last year, complaining of difficulty in walking and a propensity to fall over.

Despite undergoing treatment at Wexham Park Hospital, Mercer tragically passed away approximately 24 hours later. The Berkshire coroner’s court discovered that nitrous oxide gas, commonly known as “laughing gas,” could have been a contributing factor to her death, as per her post-mortem examination. 

The autopsy report identified the cause of Mercer’s death as bilateral pulmonary thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis, and long-term complications associated with the excessive use of nitrous oxide. 

Details from the scene painted a grim picture, with Mercer’s living space exhibiting signs of vulnerability and distress. Despite her communication appearing normal, Mercer disclosed that she had sustained burns to her legs after a canister of the gas spilled onto her, rendering her unable to walk or utilize the washroom for two weeks. The investigation into Mercer’s untimely death remains ongoing as authorities grapple with the tragic loss and the circumstances surrounding it.
