Rahul Gandhi on multiple occasions made a reference to Aishwarya Rai’s dance

Singer Sona Mohapatra lashed out at Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi over his remark on Aishwarya during a Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra rally in Uttar Pradesh. “What’s with politicians demeaning women in their speeches to get some brownie points in a sexist landscape? Dear Rahul Gandhi, sure someone has demeaned your own mother (Sonia Gandhi), sister (Priyanka Gandhi) similarly in the past and irrespective you ought to know better? Also, Aishwarya Rai dances beautifully. Demeaning Amitabh Bacchan, a veteran, a legend, a professional par excellence  and a senior citizen of India &  demeaning a woman achiever who has brought international accolades to India, makes this even worse, not better.Misogyny, Disrespect for elders & above all no fact check. First of all, anyone, let alone a high profile politician of a country, should do a fact check before saying something in the public domain. Was Aishwarya Rai in this event to start with? Secondly was she ‘dancing’ ? Cheap ‘messaging’. Period,” she highlighted through various posts on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).

Rahul Gandhi on multiple occasions made a reference to Aishwarya Rai’s dance in events spearheaded by Prime Minister Modi to demonstrate that commoners are not included in it. Critics have however characterised this as sexist.
