The Karnataka Government has reportedly banned the release of ‘Hamaare Barah’ under sections of the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulations) Act 1964. The film has received criticism for stereotypical representation of the Muslim community. The filmmakers and the crew have however denied these allegations.

Similar concerns have also been raised in the Bombay High Court. This caused the film to be stayed for a period of one week. The leader of the opposition in the Karnataka assembly, R.Ashok from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lashed out at the Karnataka Government over this development. “CMSiddaramaiah’s decision to ban Hamare Baarah movie in Karnataka is yet another brazen attempt to muzzle freedom of speech and expression in the state. Who is CMSiddaramiah andINC Karnataka trying to please with this ban? There is no threat to law and order in Karnataka because of this movie, which is being screened across the country. Instead of protecting the civil liberties and freedom of expression CM Siddaramaiah has yet again chosen to stand with radical elements. Shame on INC Karnataka's regressive vote bank politics and intolerance,” he mentioned in a post on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).
