The construction of Bengaluru’s longest underground metro line is now progressing at pace after years of delays. The metro work is going on in full swing at various under-construction stations with the help of a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).

One notable development is the construction of a new metro station at MG Road, one of Bengaluru’s most renowned high streets. This station, which is part of the Pink Line, is being built more than 62 feet below the surface. It will seamlessly integrate with the existing Purple Line, making it easier for commuters to access the Central Business District (CBD) from the city’s southern and northeastern suburbs.

The Pink Line, spanning a total of 21.26 kilometers, consists of a 13.76-kilometer underground section and a 7.5-kilometer elevated section, connecting Kalena Agrahara and Bannerghatta Road to Nagavara. It comprises a total of 18 stations, with 12 of them being underground.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) aims to complete all civil and track-laying work on the Pink Line by the second half of 2024, after which traction, signaling, and other system-related tasks will commence.

Passengers will enjoy the convenience of switching between the Pink and Purple lines without having to exit the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates, and they will be charged according to the telescopic fare structure.

Furthermore, the tunneling work on other sections of the Pink Line is also approaching its final stages.

Tunnel Boring Machines Tunga and Bhadra are presently boring their way from Venkateshpura through KG Halli and are expected to achieve a breakthrough early next year.

These two machines have approximately 2.79 kilometers left to tunnel between Venkateshpura and Nagavara.
