Reigning 5000m and 10,000m world record holder Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei headlines this year’s event, marking his return to Bengaluru after 11 years. He will be aiming for the course record, currently held by Kipkorir Kimeli at 27:38, with a cash prize of USD 8,000 up for grabs. Cheptegei’s achievements include Olympic gold medals in the 5000m (Tokyo 2020) and 10,000m (Paris 2024), alongside multiple world records.
Defending champions Kiran Matre and Sanjivani Jadhav lead India’s challenge. Matre, the National Games silver medallist, faces tough competition from Sawan Barwal, who has been in top form with victories in the 10,000m and multiple marathon events. In the women’s category, Jadhav, a three-time winner, will battle Lili Das, last year’s runner-up and the 2024 Delhi Half Marathon champion.
To ensure seamless participation, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited will start metro services at 3:30 AM on race day. With over 30,000 runners expected, the event continues to celebrate Bengaluru’s enduring spirit and passion for fitness.
