Cry filter would consist of "sad songs supermix"

Following established practices in other music related applications such as Spotify and Wynk Music, YouTube would be introducing filters for songs based on the mood it invokes in its listeners. This was carried out in a rudimentary manner in 2020 with categories such as Workout, Focus, Relax, Commute, Energise, and Podcasts but it has now expanded in its scope to include categories such as Romance, Party, Feel Good, Sleep and Cry. 

The cry filter would also consist of a “Sad Songs Supermix”. These are curated under different lists such as “Mixed for You”, “From Your Library”,  “Listen Again” and “Similar To”. 

This feature came to limelight through Reddit. This feature was introduced from the server’s end and is yet to be fully functional. The Cry filter and 3 other filters are in use, however 7 more filters would soon be rolled out. This would also be reflected on the website alongside the application. 

YouTube follows practices that customise content and recommendations as per a user’s history and this feature would be a further add-on in that regard. These practices certainly improve the engagement a site generates although addiction is a potential risk.
