April 2, 2024 marks 13th anniversary of 2011 WC victory

MSD's six is still fresh in memory

But do you know what has happened to that ball?

On April 2, 2011, India walked into record books as Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit that phenomenal six, helping India lift the World Cup!

But do you know what has happened to that ball? Reports state that the ball was untraceable for a period of 10 years since the world cup victory.

It should also be noted that the ball landed on seat number 210. The seat has been demarcated now by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The MCA now plans to open a museum in honour of Dhoni.

ICC trophy drought

It might be recalled that India have won 2 50 overs World Cup, once in 1983 and then in 2011. They also won the 2013 Champions Trophy. As far as T20 is concerned, India won it for the first time in 2007. But of late, there has been a drought.

If India do manage to lift the T20 WC trophy, to be played in West Indies and US, it will clearly end the long wait.

2011 World Cup victory

India lifted the trophy after a gap of 28 years, led by MSD. In the final played against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, India chased a target of 275. That six did ring in a lot of change!
