It was something indigestible for Congress and Kharge himself
Kalaburagi constituency in Karnataka saw Mallikarjun Kharge’s son-in-law Radhakrishna Doddamani contest against BJP’s Umesh Jadhav.
Umesh Jadhav won the 2019 LS polls, defeating Kharge himself. It was something indigestible for the Congress and Kharge himself as the constituency is his hometown and Umesh Jadhav is a former Congressman.

This time, Kharge decided not to throw his towel into the ring, fearing a repeat of the result. But he ensured his son-in-law contested and he campaigned for him in an emotional manner.
He struck a chord with the electorate as he recalled his contributions for the constituency.
He said, “At last, I will make one appeal. I may or may not get votes. But do remember the good things we have done. Keeping this in mind, do attend my funeral. Please do me this honour. If I am cremated, light candles and come for my funeral. I don’t want anything more.”
BJP not getting magic number
At the time of filing this article, the BJP was struggling to reach the magic number of 272. It was hovering around 240 seats, way behind the half-way mark.
With an obvious bid to form the government, PM Modi even rang up TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu to seek his support.
