This has resulted in a decline in sales of Gobi Manchurian across Bengaluru. The decline is estimated to be close to 40%.

The state government’s decision was rather well accepted by the people. Rhodamine-B was used to add colour to the Gobi Manchurian. Out of the 171 samples that were examined by the Department of Health & Family Welfare Services of Karnataka, 107 samples were found to have this component. The potential risk of causing cancer was associated with Rhodamine-B. However, there was no ban on gobi manchurian per say as long this component was not used.

This notification has also made people become more cautious with respect to their habit of consuming Gobi Manchurian. Food outlets that relied on Gobi Manchurian to sustain their business have been negatively impacted as a result of these developments.
