The Infosys Foundation has pledged Rs 33 crore to aid the Karnataka Police in combating cybercrimes. This partnership, announced on Wednesday, entails a collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka Police and the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) to extend support to the Centre for Cyber Crime Investigation Training & Research (CCITR) in Bengaluru.

In light of the escalating cyber threats, this renewed collaboration between Infosys Foundation and Karnataka Police is poised to significantly enhance investigative efforts.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, has committed over Rs 33 crore to reinforce the Karnataka Police’s capabilities in cybercrime investigation.

This commitment extends the existing association with CCITR for another four years, aiming to augment the cybercrime prosecution skills of the Karnataka Police through focused training and research in digital forensics and cybercrime investigation.

Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan disclosed that the number of cybercrime cases registered by the Karnataka Police surged from 11,000 in 2020 to nearly 22,000 in 2023. Additionally, Mohan highlighted that one in four crimes reported in Bengaluru were cybercrimes.
