Incident occurred in Vijayanagar Metro Station

Passenger questioned officials over fine imposed

BMRCL officials are not entertaining excuses

Do you have the habit of lingering in metro stations to ensure that your phone is fully charged? You might have several excuses but the officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) are not entertaining any of them. Citizens will be fined if they are spotted spending more than 20 minutes in the Namma Metro stations.

A similar incident was observed in the Vijayanagar Metro Station. A charging point has been placed across metro stations to aid the passengers in case of emergencies. A passenger was charging his phone at one of these points. The time spent in locating the point and charging his phone exceeded 20 minutes. The passenger was not mindful of this. A while, he swiped his metro card to exit the station. It is then that he realised that Rs 50 had been deducted from his account. When he questioned the officials in the station about this, he was informed that it was due to him spending excessive time in the station.

This resulted in an argument between the officials and the passenger. The lack of awareness among passengers about this rule could be a contributing factor for the confusion that prevailed.
