Bengaluru: Over 900 owners identified in crackdown on abandoned vehicles

    Of the 1,412 abandoned vehicles, 356 were autorickshaws

    Citizens can report any abandoned vehicles to police at 112

In a concerted effort to tackle the issue of abandoned vehicles cluttering streets and pavements, Bengaluru Traffic Police have successfully identified 918 owners out of 1,412 vehicles traced from February 1st until last week.

Reportedly, according to data provided by the traffic police department, of the 1,412 abandoned vehicles, 356 were autorickshaws, 72 were two-wheelers, and 31 were four-wheelers, among others. The inventory also includes 521 two-wheelers, 79 four-wheelers, 93 light motor vehicles, 6 heavy goods vehicles, and 7 miscellaneous vehicles.

In cases where vehicles were found abandoned on pavements, police have booked owners. For instances of wrong parking, fines up to Rs 500 have been imposed. However, in many cases, owners were given warnings by police.

The authorities plan to issue three notices to the owners of the remaining 494 abandoned vehicles, urging them to claim their property. Should there be no response, the vehicles will be subjected to auction after securing court permission.

Citizens are encouraged to report any abandoned vehicles to the traffic police control rooms at 2294313, 22943232, and 22943684, or to the police control room at 112.
