KSCPCR officials issue warnings to schools to halt classes
In a recent crackdown, the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) discovered several private unaided schools in Bengaluru conducting classes during the mandated summer vacation.
This surprise inspection on May 22 revealed that despite repeated directives from the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), some schools were operating from as early as April 15.

The DSEL had issued multiple circulars instructing all schools to reopen only after May 28. However, the Karnataka School College Parents Associations Co-Ordination Committee lodged a complaint with the KSCPCR, highlighting the non-compliance. In response, the KSCPCR instructed the DSEL to take corrective measures. Consequently, the Commissioner for School Education released a circular to Deputy Directors of Public Instruction (DDPI), Block Education Officers (BEOs), and Head Masters (HMs), emphasizing the necessity of observing the summer vacation until May 28.
During the visits, KSCPCR officials issued stern warnings to the school managements to halt classes immediately and adhere to the reopening date. Some school authorities attempted to justify their actions by claiming they were holding remedial classes for low performers. However, investigations revealed that even first-grade students were attending these sessions.
Many private schools conducting classes during the summer vacation is a clear violation of child rights. DSEL urged to take stringent action against such schools.
