Under ‘Sanmitra’ initiative, West Division police conduct surprise checks in 6 colleges and 2 hostels; legal action and counselling to follow
In a strong step towards making the state drug-free, the Bengaluru West Division Police carried out a large-scale anti-drug inspection across colleges and hostels in the city. The operation was conducted under the “Sanmitra” programme initiated by DGP & IGP Saleem.
The drive was led by West Division DCP Yatheesh N and ACP Chandan. The checks were conducted in six colleges and two hostels located under the Vijayanagar police sub-division limits.
As part of the inspection, around 1,200 students were screened. Out of them, urine samples of 585 students were collected and sent for narcotic testing. According to officials, 31 students tested positive for drug consumption.

Police confirmed that legal action will be initiated against those who tested positive. At the same time, counselling will also be provided to help them come out of drug addiction. Officers said parents of the identified students have been called and informed about their children’s involvement. Students have also been warned that continued drug use will attract strict legal consequences.
During the operation, several hospitals from the West Division extended support by providing testing equipment and deputing medical staff. Hospitals including Kade Hospital, Lakshmi Hospital, Padmadevayya Hospital and Kangaroo Care Hospital assisted the police in conducting the checks.
Officials said the initiative is not just about identifying users but also about tracing the supply network. The programme has helped police gather information on where drug consumption is more prevalent and who may be distributing narcotics to students. Based on the inputs collected, further action is being taken.
