Inaugurating NewsFirst Kannada’s ‘EV Ready’ Expo in Bengaluru, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy announced nationwide expansion of EV charging infrastructure, praised Karnataka’s potential, and highlighted the economic impact of electric mobility.

Bengaluru: India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution is gaining strong momentum, and Karnataka has the potential to emerge as a global leader in electric mobility, said Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy. He announced that 70,000 EV charging stations will soon be established across the country to strengthen charging infrastructure and support rapid EV adoption.

The minister was speaking after inaugurating the grand ‘EV Ready’ Expo organised by NewsFirst Kannada at Tripura Vasini, Palace Grounds, Bengaluru. He formally opened the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp and interacted with industry leaders, innovators, and visitors.

Congratulating NewsFirst Kannada, Kumaraswamy said he was delighted to inaugurate the EV Ready Expo in Bengaluru. He appreciated the channel for bringing EV manufacturers, consumers, and stakeholders together on a single platform, calling it a significant step towards accelerating electric mobility awareness and adoption.

Highlighting the broader impact of electric vehicles, the minister said EVs are not just modes of transport but key drivers of energy security and economic growth. He noted that the EV revolution is closely linked to India’s digital transformation, opening up new business opportunities, jobs, and innovation ecosystems.

Sharing key figures, Kumaraswamy said more than 20 lakh electric vehicles have already been registered across India. Under the central government’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, an investment of ₹11,500 crore has been committed to promote EV adoption and expand supply networks nationwide.

Emphasising infrastructure development, he assured that the rollout of 70,000 charging stations across India would significantly improve convenience and confidence among EV users. This expansion, he said, is essential to ensure smooth and widespread adoption of electric vehicles.

Speaking about Karnataka’s strengths, the minister said the state has the right combination of industries, technology talent, and a vibrant startup ecosystem. He urged industries and startups to work together, adding that Karnataka is well positioned to take a leadership role in the global EV sector.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Ministry of Heavy Industries Additional Secretary Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility CEO Suman Mishra, TVS Motor Company Director K.N. Radhakrishnan, and Kinetic Green Energy CEO Sulajja Firodia Motwani, among others.

The NewsFirst EV Ready Expo aims to promote electric mobility, enhance public awareness, and strengthen India’s transition towards sustainable, future-ready transportation.
