Anekal residents protest outside Tasildhar’s office, demanding repair of 20‑year‑neglected roads, drainage fixes, and safer travel for commuters

Hundreds of residents from Chandapura, Heelalige, Sampige Nagar, Anantha Nagar and 17 surrounding villages in Anekal Taluk staged a protest on Saturday demanding urgent repair of long neglected roads. The demonstration took place outside the Tasildhar’s office, where citizens raised slogans and later submitted a memorandum highlighting their grievances.

The protest was organized under the banner of the Anekal Citizens’ Welfare Committee and drew participation from local leaders, farmers, and apartment community representatives. Residents pointed out that the road connecting Huskur Road to Anantha Nagar and Heelalige has remained in poor condition for nearly 20 years, with no proper asphalt laid during this period. They argued that the lack of maintenance has made daily travel unsafe and stressful, particularly for office goers and students.

Officials from the Taluk Office received the memorandum on behalf of the Tasildhar and assured that the concerns would be forwarded to the relevant departments. Some of the pending works fall under the Public Works Department, while others are the responsibility of the Gram Panchayat. Authorities also indicated that ongoing work on the Singena Agrahara to AMPC Market stretch in Huskur would be completed soon.

Residents expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of current black topping efforts, noting that the thickness of the road surface appeared inadequate. They also raised alarm over the absence of a proper drainage network, warning that stormwater could damage freshly laid tar and worsen conditions.

The protest highlighted the collective frustration of communities who have endured decades of neglect. With over 50 apartment associations joining farmers and local leaders, the demand for durable road infrastructure has gained momentum. Citizens have urged officials to act swiftly and ensure that future works meet quality standards, emphasizing that safe and reliable roads are essential for daily life in Anekal.
