  • Bengaluru pothole deadline extended to November 10 after missing CM’s October 31 target
  • GBA warns strict penalties for unapproved road cutting and repair delays
  • Contractors neglecting pothole repairs will face fines and blacklisting

After missing the October 31 deadline set by CM Siddaramaiah, the Greater Bengaluru Authority has now been given time till November 10 to repair potholes across city roads.

Bengaluru’s long-standing pothole problem continues, with yet another deadline announced for repairs. Despite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar setting an October 31 deadline for filling city potholes, the work remains incomplete.

Now, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao has issued a fresh deadline of November 10, directing all zonal officials to complete pothole repairs across main roads, sub-main roads, and ward-level stretches.

During a high-level meeting with five zonal commissioners and senior officers, Rao instructed that all pending potholes must be closed before the new deadline. He also emphasized stringent action against contractors who fail to meet the target.

Officials who dig or damage roads without proper permission will face penalties, the Chief Commissioner warned. He said that a redesigned online portal will soon be introduced to streamline permission for road cutting and related works. Until then, GBA officers have been asked to carry out direct field inspections and impose fines on violators immediately.

In the meeting, Rao reiterated that GBA cannot tolerate negligence in maintaining city roads and cleanliness. Contractors unwilling to take up the repair work will be blacklisted and fined, he added.

Earlier, the GBA had blamed heavy rains and adverse weather for the delay in completing pothole repairs by October-end. However, with growing public anger over deteriorating road conditions, the new November 10 deadline is being seen as the final chance to fix the issue before further accountability measures are taken.
