Preparations are underway for the historic Kadalekayi Parishe, scheduled for November 17-18, with a preparatory meeting held today at the Basavanagudi Dodda Basavanna Temple. The meeting began at 11 AM and was convened under the guidance of Muzarai Minister Ramalingareddy.

The session saw participation from local MLAs, members of the State Religious Council, the temple management committee president and members, and the Muzarai Commissioner. Discussions focused on event arrangements, crowd management, and trader levies, ensuring a smooth experience for devotees and visitors alike.

The Kadalekayi Parishe, a centuries-old groundnut fair, draws thousands of traders and devotees, making early planning crucial. Authorities emphasized coordination between departments, enforcement of trader levies, and adherence to temple guidelines to prevent congestion and maintain order.

Karnataka Minister Ramalingareddy has confirmed that this year’s Kadalekayi Parishe will be held for five days, starting November 17 at the Dodda Ganapati Temple in Basavanagudi. Believed to have a 400-year history and held at the temple for 116 years, the fair is expected to attract over five lakh visitors.

Minister Ramalingareddy said preparatory discussions have focused on law and order, traffic management, and placement of stalls. Roads will remain closed for seven days to facilitate smooth operations. Safety measures include monitoring by GBA, BESCOM, and the Water Board for electricity, water supply, and drainage.

The fair will feature cultural programs, and special arrangements are made for local participation. In a major eco-friendly move, plastic usage is fully banned, including in food courts and shops, with violations leading to closures. Last year, a similar ban was successfully enforced.

The inauguration will involve 21 Basavanna idols, continuing the historical tradition. While the Deputy CM inaugurated last year, this year the Chief Minister has been invited, though his attendance is not confirmed.

Bengaluru's Kadalekayi Parishe:

Bengaluru’s Kadalekayi Parishe, held annually in Basavanagudi, is a historic groundnut fair dating back over 100 years. The festival takes place in November, coinciding with the harvest season, and is organized around the Dodda Ganapati and Dodda Basavanna Temples. Farmers from Karnataka’s rural areas bring freshly harvested groundnuts (kadalekayi) to sell directly to the city’s traders and residents, making it a major marketplace. The fair also features traditional stalls, local foods, and cultural activities, attracting thousands of devotees and visitors. It celebrates agriculture, community, and tradition, and is a key part of Bengaluru’s cultural calendar.
