Bengaluru airport hits new highs in 2025: Passenger traffic crosses 43.8 million, cargo touches record levels

Kempegowda International Airport handled 43.82 million passengers in 2025, growing 8% year-on-year. The airport set records in daily passenger traffic, flights and cargo, while expanding domestic and international connectivity.

Kempegowda International Airport posts strong growth in passengers, flights and cargo in CY2025, recording multiple all-time highs across operations.

Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru, delivered a strong performance in calendar year 2025, handling 43.82 million passengers, marking an 8% year-on-year growth, according to Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL).

The airport also set a new benchmark for daily passenger movement, recording its highest-ever single-day footfall of 1,37,317 passengers on November 23, 2025. This surge reflects the steady rise in both domestic and international travel demand from Bengaluru.

Air traffic movements (ATMs) also witnessed significant growth during the year. BIAL stated that KIA recorded a peak of 837 ATMs on October 19, 2025, while the average daily ATMs stood at 765 throughout the year. In a notable achievement, the airport moved from third to second position in October 2025 in terms of the number of domestic flights operated among Indian airports.

International connectivity strengthened further in 2025. The average daily international departures increased from 38 in CY2024 to 51 in CY2025, translating into a 28.7% year-on-year rise in international passenger traffic.

As of December 31, 2025, KIA was connected to 113 passenger destinations, including 79 domestic and 34 international cities. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Pune emerged as the top domestic routes, while Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur led the international network.

Cargo operations also posted healthy growth. The airport handled 5,20,985 tonnes of cargo in CY2025, registering a 5% increase over the previous year. KIA achieved its highest-ever single-day cargo volume of 2,207 tonnes on August 7, 2025.

Currently, the airport is connected to 37 cargo destinations through 15 domestic and international cargo airlines. Chicago, Singapore, London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Leipzig topped export destinations, while Shenzhen, Shanghai, Frankfurt, Hong Kong and Singapore led imports. Growth was driven mainly by agri-perishables, pharmaceuticals, auto parts and spares, electric and electronic goods, and e-commerce shipments.
