To tackle traffic congestion at the airport, BIAL is considering time limits for vehicles picking up and dropping passengers, with fines proposed for those exceeding five minutes.
Bengaluru Airport is set to implement time restrictions for pick-up and drop-off vehicles to reduce growing congestion at the terminal. The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has proposed a system where vehicles stopping for more than five minutes could be fined, in coordination with the Bengaluru Traffic Police.

The move comes as the airport experiences heavy traffic jams, particularly during peak passenger hours. Vehicles arriving for side pick-ups have been contributing to delays, causing inconvenience for passengers. BIAL aims to designate specific time limits for vehicles entering and exiting the airport, ensuring smoother movement both inside and outside the premises.
By regulating lane occupancy and limiting stop times, authorities believe congestion can be significantly reduced. The Joint Police Commissioner, Traffic Division, Karthik Reddy, highlighted that implementing such measures would allow vehicles to flow more efficiently while minimizing passenger discomfort.

This initiative is part of airport planning efforts to improve traffic management and passenger experience. Fines will apply to private and board vehicles exceeding the five-minute limit, discouraging prolonged stops that exacerbate congestion. The proposal is currently under discussion with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, and implementation is expected once approvals are finalized.
The airport authority hopes these measures will facilitate easier entry and exit, reduce traffic pile-ups, and provide a more convenient experience for passengers using pick-up and drop services.
