Police set up barricades, borders sealed as hunt for robbers intensifies

A massive police operation is underway across Bengaluru after a group of robbers targeted an ATM cash replenishment vehicle in the Siddhapura police limits on Tuesday afternoon. The robbery, which happened around 1:30 pm, triggered an immediate alert from the City Police Commissioner, directing all stations to set up barricades and conduct stringent vehicle checks.

According to police sources, the gang escaped in an Innova car carrying a fake number plate. Investigations revealed that the registration number KA 03 NC 8052, originally belonging to a Swift VDI (silky silver, BS4) registered in Indiranagar RTO in January 2018, was illegally used on the getaway vehicle. The Swift is registered under P.B. Gangadharan with a Tipposandra address and was purchased from Garuda Auto Craft Limited.

The robbery occurred while the CMS team, consisting of one driver, two gunmen, and one cash handling staff, was transporting money after collecting cash from HDFC Bank, JP Nagar, and heading to refill ATMs. A fingerprint team has reached the location, and CMS employees are being questioned at Siddhapura Police Station.

The robbers are suspected to have moved towards Hosur, prompting a major nakabandi across the city’s southern entry and exit points. Additional police have been deployed at Attibele toll, border checkpoints and key intersections along Hosur Road. Nearby police jurisdictions, including Electronic City, Hebbagodi, and all stations along the corridor, have been instructed to check every passing vehicle.

The getaway vehicle was later traced near Dairy Circle, which falls under Suddaguntepalya Police Station limits. This led to immediate alerts being issued to all stations in the surrounding zones.

A large-scale CCTV scan is now underway along the Hosur Road stretch. Teams from South Division, Southeast Division, Electronic City Division, Whitefield Division, and specialised squads from the City Crime Branch (CCB) have joined the search to prevent the suspects from leaving Bengaluru.

Police officials say the next few hours will be crucial as teams comb through CCTV footage to track the exact route of the fleeing gang. The investigation continues.
