  • Bengaluru is driving major EV innovation in India
  • Mahindra has sold 3 lakh EVs, covering 5 billion e-kilometre
  • 35% electrification target for three-wheelers with policy support

At the NewsFirst ‘EV Ready’ Expo in Bengaluru, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility MD & CEO Suman Mishra highlighted Bengaluru’s innovation role, policy support, 35% electrification in three-wheelers, and Mahindra’s major EV milestones.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru continues to lead India’s innovation journey and is now playing a major role in advancing electric vehicle (EV) technology across the country, said Ms. Suman Mishra, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility. She stated that the city has become a key centre for EV research, development, and product innovation.

Speaking at the NewsFirst Kannada-organised ‘EV Ready’ Expo in Bengaluru, Mishra said Mahindra Last Mile Mobility is proud to have its research and development (R&D) centre located in the city. She added that Bengaluru is where the company designs, develops, and drives its complete product portfolio for last-mile electric mobility solutions.

Highlighting the role of government support, Mishra said the Ministry of Heavy Industries and its forward-looking policies have significantly boosted the growth of EV technology in India. She pointed out that nearly 35 percent electrification is being targeted in the three-wheeler segment, largely due to strong policy guidance, demand-side incentives, and localisation measures under schemes such as the PLI, ACC, and automotive PLI programmes. These initiatives, she said, have given companies the confidence to invest in new technologies and launch globally competitive products.

Sharing Mahindra’s achievements, Mishra said the company’s mission is to electrify India’s last mile. Under Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, the company has already sold more than 3 lakh electric vehicles, which together have covered over 5 billion electric kilometres. She noted that users consistently find Mahindra’s EVs technologically superior and beneficial for improving earnings and livelihoods.

She also announced the launch of Mahindra ‘Udo’, a PLI-approved electric vehicle product, reinforcing the company’s commitment to innovation and domestic manufacturing.

However, Mishra said the industry’s work is far from complete. She identified three key priorities for the future: strengthening localisation, expanding charging infrastructure availability, and creating innovative financial structures. These steps, she said, are essential to ensure customers can easily access and afford electric vehicles. She added that the goal is to deliver products that are technologically advanced, economically practical, and truly meaningful for consumers.
