Joint inspection teams formed to check safety, health norms and legal compliance across all PG accommodations in East Bengaluru
In a strong move to ensure public safety and regulatory compliance, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has intensified action against paying guest (PG) accommodations that fail to follow prescribed guidelines. As part of this drive, a special joint inspection mechanism has been put in place to conduct a comprehensive verification of PG facilities across the city.
The action comes in the backdrop of growing concerns related to public health, safety standards, and unregulated commercial activities operating within residential zones. To address these concerns, a joint inspection team has been formed, comprising officials from the Health Department and the Urban Planning Department.
The inspection drive will initially focus on all paying guest accommodations located within the jurisdiction of the Bengaluru East City Municipal Corporation. Officials have been directed to conduct a thorough physical inspection of every PG unit and assess compliance with multiple legal and safety requirements.

The Commissioner has instructed the inspection teams to complete the entire verification process within 15 days and submit a detailed compliance report. The report will serve as the basis for further enforcement actions, including sealing of additional PGs found operating in violation of norms.
During the inspections, authorities will verify whether the buildings housing PGs have been constructed strictly in accordance with the approved building plans. Teams will also examine whether these PG establishments fall under permitted commercial zones or are functioning illegally in residential areas.
A key focus of the inspections will be fire safety. Officials will verify whether PG operators have obtained mandatory No Objection Certificates (NOC) from the Fire and Emergency Services Department. In addition, the presence and proper functioning of CCTV surveillance systems and other essential safety measures will also be assessed to ensure the security of residents.

Sources in the civic body confirmed that several PGs that fail to meet these regulatory requirements are likely to face strict action, including closure and sealing. The drive aims to bring greater accountability, improve living standards for PG residents, and ensure that safety regulations are not compromised.
