Bengaluru: Foxconn begins iPhone 17 production in Devanahalli

Apple’s $2.8B Devanahalli unit becomes Foxconn’s second-largest global facility, driving job creation and boosting India’s role in global supply chains.

In a major boost to India’s manufacturing ambitions, Foxconn has officially begun producing the iPhone 17 at its advanced facility near Devanahalli, Bengaluru. This milestone positions the factory as Foxconn’s second-largest unit globally, after China, underscoring Apple’s accelerating shift toward India.

Currently in its early phase, the Bengaluru plant has rolled out iPhone 17 models on a limited scale, supplementing production at Foxconn’s Chennai unit. Though the factory faced a brief disruption earlier this year following the sudden exit of several Chinese engineers, Foxconn swiftly filled the gap with technical experts from Taiwan and other locations, ensuring smooth progress.

The project, born out of a $2.8 billion (Rs 25,000 crore) agreement signed in 2023 with the Karnataka government, promises thousands of jobs and the transformation of Devanahalli into a high-tech manufacturing hub.

Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil has already highlighted Apple’s plans to make India a major global production base, with Apple CEO Tim Cook confirming that most iPhones sold in the US this June quarter will originate from India.

The news sparked celebrations across social media, with residents and tech watchers sharing images of the sprawling facility. For Bengaluru, this development further cements its reputation as India’s technology capital and a rising global manufacturing powerhouse.
