Bengaluru Police score big on New Year security as celebrations remain largely peaceful

Despite minor disturbances, Bengaluru police successfully managed New Year celebrations, cleared key roads by morning, and ensured crowd control as footfall dropped compared to last year.

The Bengaluru police successfully handled security arrangements during New Year celebrations, ensuring smooth crowd management and quick restoration of normalcy across key parts of the city. Officials confirmed that police personnel were largely successful in maintaining law and order, despite isolated incidents of disturbance.

During the celebrations, police teams were alert and handled minor trouble on the spot, preventing situations from escalating. A few individuals who were intoxicated and attempted to create disturbances, misbehaved with police personnel, or engaged in inappropriate conduct were immediately dealt with. Alert officers detained such individuals and took them to nearby police stations, ensuring quick resolution of issues.

By the morning after New Year’s Eve, major celebration hubs such as MG Road, Church Street and Brigade Road were completely cleared. Police and civic staff were seen removing barricades placed for crowd control, allowing traffic movement to return to normal. Officials said the cleanup and clearance operations were completed without difficulty.

Interestingly, police observed a drop in crowd strength compared to last year. During the previous New Year celebrations, over 4 lakh people had gathered across central Bengaluru. This year, authorities had anticipated a turnout of more than 6 lakh people, but the actual number of revellers was significantly lower than expected, even less than last year’s count.

The reduced crowd size played a role in helping police manage security more effectively, contributing to the overall success of the operation. Officials said there was no major area-related stress or security challenge, and coordination among personnel ensured smooth monitoring throughout the night.

Overall, the police department termed the New Year security exercise a successful operation, with effective crowd control, quick action against miscreants, and seamless post-celebration clearance across the city.
