  • BWSSB launches OTS with full interest and penalty waiver
  • ₹701 crore pending till Feb 2025; ₹439 crore is principal
  • Scheme active for three months across Greater Bengaluru

BWSSB rolls out a three-month One-Time Settlement plan offering complete waiver of interest and penalty for consumers who clear all pending water bill dues at once.

In a major relief to thousands of Bengaluru households, the state government has approved the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (BWSSB) One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme aimed at helping consumers clear their long-pending water bill dues without any financial burden of accumulated interest or penalties.

As per official records updated till February 2025, water bill arrears in the city stood at ₹701 crore. Of this, ₹439 crore is the principal amount, while ₹262 crore has accumulated as interest over the years. The new scheme allows residents to settle only the principal dues, with the entire interest component being fully waived.

Under the OTS offer, any consumer who pays the entire outstanding amount in a single payment will receive a complete interest waiver. Additionally, those who clear the full balance at once will also get penalty exemption, offering significant financial relief to households that have struggled with large overdue amounts.

The Cabinet has given its approval to operationalise BWSSB’s proposal, and the water board is now preparing to roll out the scheme across the Greater Bengaluru region. The OTS will remain active for three months, giving consumers sufficient time to clear their dues and regularise their accounts.

The decision is expected to benefit a large number of residents and improve revenue recovery for the water utility, which has been dealing with rising arrears for several years. BWSSB is gearing up to launch awareness campaigns to ensure eligible consumers make use of the limited-period scheme.
