Morning panic in Govinda Shetty Palya as pourakarmikas discover human bones in a dumpyard, later revealed to be a medical skeleton discarded by an MBBS student’s father.

The routine task of clearing garbage turned into a chilling moment for pourakarmikas in Govinda Shetty Palya, near Electronics City, on Tuesday morning. As they sifted through heaps of waste, they stumbled upon a human skull staring back from the pile. Just a few steps away lay the bones of arms and legs — enough to freeze the morning bustle into stunned silence.

Word spread quickly through the narrow lanes, drawing residents who covered their noses with dupattas and shirt sleeves. Some even linked the discovery to the ongoing Dharmasthala mass sexual violence and murder investigation, fearing another horrific unearthing.

Police from Parappana Agrahara station, backed by the Hoysala patrol team, rushed to the spot and cordoned off the dumpyard. Just as suspense deepened, a local man stepped forward with a confession. Jaya Prakash, a resident of the area and employee of a private firm in Jigani, admitted he had dumped the skeleton the previous night.

The bones, he clarified, were not linked to any crime but belonged to his daughter, a second-year MBBS student at a Virgonagar medical college. As part of anatomy training, students are issued skeletons upon paying a Rs 4,000 deposit, refundable when returned. Prakash, however, suggested his daughter skip the return, dismissing the refund as “not worth the trouble.” Instead, he carried the skeleton under cover of darkness and abandoned it in the dumpyard.

Police verified his claims with college authorities, who confirmed the skeleton’s academic use. With no foul play involved, officers let Prakash off with a stern warning. His daughter’s identity has been withheld at the family’s request.
