A Bengaluru software engineer was duped of ₹1.86 lakh after receiving a white tile instead of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 he ordered on Amazon. Police have launched an investigation.
A shocking case of online fraud has come to light in Bengaluru after a software engineer lost ₹1.86 lakh in an alleged Amazon delivery scam. The victim, Premanand, a resident of Yelachenahalli, ordered a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 smartphone from Amazon and made full payment through his HDFC credit card on October 14.

The order was delivered to his residence on October 19 at 4:16 pm. Suspecting possible tampering, Premanand decided to record an unboxing video, only to discover a square white tile inside the package instead of the high-end smartphone.
Following the incident, he filed a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and later approached the Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station. An FIR has been registered under Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 319 (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, which deals with cheating through digital means.

Police officials have begun an investigation to trace those behind the scam, including whether the fraud took place during packaging, shipping, or delivery. The case highlights the growing number of e-commerce scams where customers receive fake or swapped items despite paying in full.
