A severely damaged gateway on Hospital Road near Wilson Garden-NIMHANS stretch raises serious safety concerns as locals demand urgent repair by civic authorities.
A dangerous situation is unfolding on one of Bengaluru’s crucial hospital-access roads, where a damaged arch has become a serious threat to public safety. The large gateway at the Someshwara Nagar entrance has developed deep cracks, and its roof is now in a near-collapse condition.
The arch stands on Hospital Road, a key stretch connecting Wilson Garden to NIMHANS. This road is used daily by patients, caregivers, healthcare workers, and ambulances. Despite its importance, the structure has not undergone any repair for several years.

Residents and commuters say cement pieces from the arch have been falling frequently onto the road below. Several concrete fragments are currently hanging loosely from the structure, creating constant fear among road users. Locals describe the situation as “danger hanging overhead,” with no certainty about when the structure might give way.

The risk is not theoretical. In a disturbing incident around two months ago, a portion of the arch reportedly fell onto an ambulance passing through the road. Fortunately, no major injury was reported, but the incident highlighted the seriousness of the danger.
What worries residents the most is the continuous movement of vulnerable people along this stretch. Patients travelling to hospitals, elderly citizens, and emergency vehicles pass under the arch every day. Any further collapse could lead to severe injuries or even loss of life.

Locals say they have raised the issue multiple times, but no concrete action has been taken so far. They are now strongly urging the civic authorities to immediately inspect the structure and carry out urgent repairs. Residents have demanded that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) act before a tragedy occurs.
With the arch clearly deteriorating and public movement continuing uninterrupted, citizens are calling for swift intervention to remove the threat and ensure safety on this vital hospital road.
