Bengaluru’s ₹449-Cr Silk Board double-decker flyover still incomplete despite Yellow Line launch

A year after opening, the Central Silk Board double-decker flyover remains unfinished, with two critical ramps pending, leaving commuters stuck in Bengaluru’s notorious traffic snarls.

Although the Yellow Line metro is now running in full swing, the notorious Silk Board junction hasn’t seen much respite. The adjoining Rs 449-crore double-decker flyover remains incomplete, despite its main stretch opening nearly a year ago.

Conceived as a seamless road-and-rail solution, the 5.12-km flyover was built by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to connect Ragigudda and Silk Board through a signal-free corridor. While motorists have been using the main stretch since July 2024, the incomplete connecting ramps have undermined the project’s effectiveness.

The most critical delays are on the 1.37-km-long ramps linking HSR Layout to Ragigudda and BTM Layout, which remain under construction. These connectors, expected to ease bottlenecks and redistribute traffic, are yet to be delivered.

Originally, BMRCL promised completion by June 2025, but with that deadline now missed, officials say about 90% of the work is finished, with the pending stretches likely to be operational by end-August or mid-September 2025.

The double-decker flyover has been built alongside the Yellow Line metro viaduct, providing road connectivity while aligning with three major metro stations—Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, and Silk Board. Out of five planned ramps, only A, B, and C are in use:

• Ramp A : Ragigudda Metro Station to Hosur Road
• Ramp B : Branches from Ramp A toward HSR Layout.
• Ramp C : Connects BTM Layout to Hosur Road and HSR Layout via Ramp A.

However, Ramp D, meant to soar above Ramp A and the metro to directly link HSR Layout with Ragigudda, and Ramp E, intended to connect HSR Layout with BTM Layout, remain unfinished. Without these vital pieces, commuters continue to endure Silk Board’s infamously slow traffic, despite the fanfare surrounding the metro’s launch.
