BSWML’s digital monitoring platform and stricter mustering rules are bringing discipline to Bengaluru’s solid waste management, cutting down black spots across the city.

Bengaluru’s fight against mounting garbage black spots has received a digital upgrade. The Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) has rolled out a new monitoring platform called “Track Duty”, designed to ensure punctual field inspections and better attendance from waste collection teams.

For months, the attendance of auto tippers — the backbone of the city’s door-to-door garbage collection — had been inconsistent, hovering between 75% and 85%. This led to delays, irregular collection, and fresh black spots mushrooming across several neighborhoods.

To fix this, the new CEO, Karee Gowda, advanced the mustering time from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. and temporarily asked officials to share live locations on WhatsApp before the platform’s launch. Now, with “Track Duty” fully active, the process has been streamlined.

Over the last two weeks, strict monitoring and daily visits by senior officials to the city’s 200 mustering centres have made a visible difference. Attendance has surged to 95%, and auto tipper drivers are being reminded to follow door-to-door collection norms and maintain waste segregation between wet and dry.

“Track Duty isn’t just about checking attendance — it’s about accountability and cleaner neighborhoods,” BSWML officials emphasized. With Bengaluru’s garbage crisis often making headlines, this tech-backed system may be the turning point in restoring discipline to the city’s waste management machinery.
