Bus bandh: Bengaluru runs normal, rest of Karnataka hit as 47% buses stay off roads

Karnataka’s transport strike leads to major disruptions, with only 6,016 out of 11,271 buses operating across four corporations. BMTC remains unaffected, while KSRTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC report severe service drops due to staff participation in the bandh.

While BMTC operates nearly normal services, other state transport corporations like KSRTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC face major disruptions due to ongoing staff strike.

The statewide transport strike called by employees across Karnataka severely impacted bus operations, especially in three of the four major state-run transport corporations. Out of the 11,271 buses scheduled to operate by 9 AM across the four corporations, only 6,016 buses hit the roads, marking a 47% disruption in service.

The BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) remained largely unaffected, with 97.4% of its fleet operational as usual. However, the strike significantly disrupted services in the KSRTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC zones.

  • KSRTC saw only 36.5% of its scheduled buses running.
  • NWKRTC (North Western Karnataka RTC) managed to operate just 48% of its services.
  • KKRTC (Kalyana Karnataka RTC) reported the steepest drop, with only 23.7% of buses in operation.

Transport staff, under the Joint Action Committee, are demanding salary revision, clearance of arrears, implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, and other benefits. The strike has disrupted daily commutes for thousands, especially in non-Bengaluru regions.
