BWSSB begins an app-driven, door-to-door survey to map water connections across Bengaluru, aiming to crack down on illegal usage and integrate GPS-tagged data for accurate monitoring.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has kicked off a door-to-door survey to detect illegal water connections across the city. The app-based initiative, launched on Tuesday, will cover every household, collecting details on water usage, borewells, and number of floors in each building.

To ensure accuracy, all collected data will be linked with GPS coordinates through the custom-built survey app, developed in-house by BWSSB engineers. Officials believe the highest number of illegal connections exist in peripheral zones that were earlier managed by CMCs and TMCs.

BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar said manual surveys in the past failed to deliver accurate results. By adopting technology, the board expects to curb unauthorized connections, strengthen data-driven planning, and improve Bengaluru’s water management system.
