Actor Mayur Patel booked for drink-and-drive after Fortuner rams into vehicles at busy Bengaluru signal; four cars damaged, insurance lapse detected.
A late-night road accident involving Sandalwood actor Mayur Patel has triggered serious concerns over drunk driving in Bengaluru. The incident occurred around 10 pm on Wednesday night near the Commando Hospital signal on Old Airport Road, one of the city’s busy traffic junctions.
According to police, Mayur Patel was driving a Fortuner car himself when he allegedly rammed into a car that was stopped at the traffic signal. Due to the impact, a chain collision followed, resulting in four vehicles being damaged.
The damaged vehicles include two Swift Dzire cars, one government vehicle, and another private car. Police said the accident was caused by overspeeding and rash driving, allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Following the crash, Halasuru Traffic Police rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation. Mayur Patel was taken into custody and subjected to a drink-and-drive (DD) test, which returned a positive result, confirming alcohol consumption.
During further checks, police also found that the insurance of the Fortuner car had lapsed, adding to the violations. The vehicle has since been seized by the police.
One of the affected car owners, Srinivas, has filed a formal complaint. Based on his statement, police have registered an FIR against Mayur Patel at the Halasuru Traffic Police Station under BNS Section 285 and IMV Act Section 185 (drunk driving).

Speaking to reporters, Srinivas broke down in tears outside the police station. He said he had purchased the car just a week ago, after pledging his wife’s jewellery, and uses it for employee pickup and drop services by renting it to a private company. He added that his EMI payment is due on the 5th, and the accident has pushed his family into financial distress.
Police officials confirmed that statements from all affected drivers have been recorded and further legal action will follow based on investigation findings.
