GBA fixes 70 official feeding zones for street dogs in North Bengaluru

Clear guidelines issued to ensure safety, hygiene, and public order while feeding community dogs

In a major step to manage street dog feeding in an organised and humane manner, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has officially identified around 70 designated locations in North Bengaluru for feeding stray dogs. The initiative, implemented through the Animal Welfare Division of the North Zone, aims to balance animal welfare with public safety and cleanliness.

As part of the move, clear instruction boards have been installed at all identified locations, informing citizens about the correct way to feed street dogs. The boards highlight the rules that must be followed strictly to avoid inconvenience to the public and to ensure safety for both humans and animals.

According to the guidelines, food must be given only at the officially marked spots. Feeding dogs in main roads, near hospitals, schools, and crowded public areas is strictly prohibited. This step is intended to prevent traffic disruption, public nuisance, and safety hazards, especially in high-footfall zones.

GBA has also stressed that maintaining cleanliness after feeding is the responsibility of the feeders. Any leftover food, waste, or packaging must be cleared immediately to avoid unhygienic conditions and public complaints. The civic body has made it clear that discipline and public safety must be maintained at all times while feeding.

Additionally, the guidelines clearly mention that causing harm, harassment, or cruelty to dogs is illegal and punishable under law. Citizens have been urged to follow a humane and responsible approach while also respecting public spaces.
