GBA launches framework inviting CSR funds and philanthropists to design, execute, and maintain Bengaluru civic projects with clear protocols and a CSR cell
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has unveiled a new framework that formally opens the door for companies and philanthropists to contribute to the city’s infrastructure development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds and donations. The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening public-private partnerships aimed at improving Bengaluru’s civic infrastructure. By introducing clear protocols and standardized procedures, the authority seeks to streamline projects supported by private funding and ensure they align with the city’s priority needs.
Under this framework, companies with CSR allocations and philanthropic individuals or organizations are encouraged to take up high-impact urban improvement works. Their role extends beyond funding, as they can participate in designing projects through the preparation of Detailed Project Reports, executing the works, and maintaining them for a minimum of two years, with an option to renew. Supporters can either select projects already listed on the GBA website or propose new sites by submitting an Expression of Interest online.

Once an application is received, the respective city corporation will arrange a meeting with the applicant to finalize the scope of work. Following this, a Memorandum of Understanding is signed between the organization and the corporation, which then takes charge of coordination and approvals.
To ensure smooth functioning, the GBA has established a dedicated CSR cell chaired by the Chief Engineer for Planning and Coordination. This cell will act as the single point of contact for all CSR and philanthropy-backed projects, while also holding regular review meetings to monitor progress. The move is expected to create a structured pathway for private participation in civic development, fostering collaboration that can accelerate Bengaluru’s infrastructure growth.
